Where do You Fit in to the Dot Com Lifestyle?

World-famous blogger John Chow, Internet Mogul, he who makes in a month blogging that most of us would be happy making in a year working at home, put out a few video posts last year on the philosophy behind his work on the Internet. He calls his philosphy living the “Dot Com Lifestyle.”  Its a very touching and thought provoking post on why John blogs, the fulfillment he gets from interacting with and helping other people try to mimic his success, and the joy it brings him to work in his home and be with his wife and child.

The Other Dot Com Lifestyle

Brian Johnson created his own Dot Com Lifestyle video that he posted as a video comment to John Chow’s original post. When you view both videos it gives a great view of the two spectrums that are resident in the blogosphere today. Mimicking the Pareto Principle, or the 80-20 rule, Brian’s video post is perhaps the more common picture of bloggers that are getting started working online while facing mounting bills at home. We all want the John Chow, Shoe Money, etc life where we work 4-8 hours at home, then enjoy our family while the money rolls in! What gets missed is the hundreds and thousands of hours of work these men put into their business before becoming highly successful (the work only done by the few, or the 20%). As a result, when the average person turns to the Internet to make money online, guaranteed they will come across a “Get Rich With Affiliate Marketing” or “Get Rich With Google Adsense” eBook or three, and think they can spend a few days or weeks of work and all of their financial problems will be solved! The exact opposite is the case most of the time. There’s money to be had, but it does take work, planning, and more work! So, we all can’t necessarily be like John Chow, but we can focus on work in a niche like freelance writing or niche blogging, and maybe fall somewhere in between the Dot Com Lifestyle in Brian’s video and that in John Chow’s!
