Download Free Themes from WordPress

SEO Software. Once you’ve used WordPress for a while, you’ll want to muck around with your theme after seeing other blogger’s websites. Now, you can create your own with the inexpensive tool, Artisteer, or you can download a freely available theme to try out on your site! The following are five themes that I’ve recently tried out with links or directions on how you can obtain them for free. Enjoy!

WordPress Theme #1 – 2 Column Neoclassical Theme (Download Page) by Chris Pearson

This ia a two Column theme with clean typography modded from the original Neoclassical Theme by Chris Pearson. Pearson created the theme based on some popular, paid designs on the market. A good loooking theme with a right column sidebar. You can view the credit card website that Pearson list’s as the demo site for the them here .

WordPress Theme #2 – Hosting Press (Download Link) by Web Hosting Fan

This is a magazine style theme that has a featured content slider as well as Ajax/Widget capability incorporated (yes, you still have to check or be ready to do a bit of modding if a theme you like is a bit older!). Hosting press has a featured video plug built into the main page as well as a cool webiste feature gallery that you can mod the theme support files to change to match your niche. If you’re scared of a bit of PhP modding, I wouldn’t recommend this theme, but if you’re not, I thought it was pretty cool.

Slick, free wordpress theme Atriumax

WordPress Theme #3 – Atriumax (Download Link) by Web Hosting Fan

Atriumax is a three or four column magazine-styled theme. It is modeled after the magazine style and has a featured content glider as part of the theme. Out of the box, it is not widget-capable, so you’ll need to research how to mod the theme to add widgets, but if you’re ok with a little more work, you can’t beat the style!

Free Newsweek Premium WordPress Theme

WordPress Theme #4 – Newsweek (Download Site) by R. Bhavesh and Premium Themes

The Newsweek theme is another cool looking magazine-styled theme. The creator based the theme on the Business Week website. It is a three column theme with spots for advertisement, featured video, and other functionalities. You have to get into the PHP a bit for this theme to get everything to work how you want it to, but still worth trying out if you like the them, or check-out Bhavesh’s latest work!

WordPress Theme #5 – UBD Money Maker Theme (Registration Page) by Unique Blog Development

My current favorite (and one being used on the blog at the time of this writing). You have to subscribe to UBD’s newsletter, but they give you lots of free goodies to go with the theme! Besides being a professional-looking theme that is similar to one’s you would pay for, the company provides an ad manager plugin for you for 125 pixel add management as well as including banner adds at the bottom of your posts. The only mod that I had to do to get the blog fully functional was to update the RSS email subcription address to match the current Feedburner email subscription convention. After a full night of mucking around trying out various templates, they had me sold!

Now, there are literally hundreds of themes out there, but if you’re lazy (like me) these five should get you at least in the right ballpark for a theme that you like for your blog!
