Working From Home – Getting Started Freelance Writing
- 0 Comments
Ok, so you’ve made the decision that its time to get down to business and start freelance writing to make money from home. Where do you start though? If you do a Google Search on “Freelance Writing Websites,” there are over 1,300,000 results returned. So, if you are new to the Freelancing world, how are you supposed to navigate that complex of a landscape? After writing for a while now, I am convinced that Associated Content (AC) is the single-best website to start Freelance Writing. AC is a great place to start for several reasons: 1 – They’ve been around for a while, 2 – They Pay both up-front money as well as for performance (number of views your article(s) receive), and 3- You can write on just about any topic you can think of that does not violate their terms of service.
Publishing Freelance Articles on Associated Content
To get started on AC, go to their website and register for an account. If you live abroad, ensure you check the current terms of service before signing up since the company is restricted from paying money to writers in certain countries. Once you register, select the “Account” menu option at the upper portion of the webpage. You will then see a web page similar to that depicted in Figure 2 with the Assignment Desk visible to you. This is where you can choose “Calls for Content” that AC is soliciting someone to write on the topic. Most of the calls pay a small upfront payment of $1-5 USD to go with a starting rate of $1.50 per thousand page views of the article. The longer that you write for AC (and more page views you accumulate) the larger your per thousand view rate becomes.
Other Freelance Writing Websites
There are a number of other freelance writing websites that you will come across in your quest to work from home. Some of the more common ones you may run into early are: eHow.com, Constant-content.com, Helium.com, and DemandStudios.com. For the beginning writer, I usually advise that he or she sticks to their starter site for 10-20 articles so they can get into the flow of writing for the web. Starting on too many freelance sites at once can make the new author become distracted and less productive.
